The deficit path, the necessary previous step to prepare the Budgets, has declined in Congress due to the rejection of the PP, Vox and Junts. Meanwhile, David Sánchez, brother of the President of the Government, has been sentenced to nine years of disqualification for a crime of prevarication, and the political reactions have not been long in coming. The ERC spokesperson in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, considered that the conviction was “foreseeable”: “The right and the extreme right should know that these are votes for Sánchez, because it is an important surplus. And then also comes Begoña Gómez, who will be condemned outright,” he stated in the halls of Congress. The Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, has considered that the sentence responds to “the sole purpose of overthrowing a Government due to the inability to do so through the ballot box”, while the PP spokesperson, Ester Muñoz, has described the day as “historic” and has assured that “in any country it would bring down a Government”. The Vox representative in Congress, José María Figaredo, has been more forceful, stating that “this sentence shows that these guys are chorizos.”
