Taxi driver Tyrone Smith waits patiently on his motorcycle at the border between Gibraltar and La Línea, accompanied by his friend with whom he shares a first name and profession. Wait patiently for the clock to strike midnight. The nerves are on edge. He came from having a drink with his friend in a bar in La Línea, they were late and now they are standing there right at the historic gates of La Verja. Thousands of people wait on the Spanish side, intoxicated by Spain’s victory in the World Cup. The clock is ticking, Tuesday becomes a historic Wednesday, July 15. The cheers and screams become deafening. “Things looked bad, but this is historic. I’m very happy,” Smith rightly assesses, starts the bike and moves forward. Paradoxes of life, a Gibraltarian has just become the first citizen to cross from the Spanish side to the British side.
