The chief inspector of the case, about the search of Villarejo: “It was much more than what was expected”
The documentation in the hands of Commissioner José Manuel Villarejo was enormous. This is what the chief inspector of the Kitchen caseGonzalo Fraga, explaining the searches that were carried out in offices and homes related to the former police command. “The documentation in digital format was much more than expected. There was no real capacity to examine, there was no capacity to extract on site“, he related. Therefore, he explained that at that time a “filtering” was done in measurements of the “human and technical skills” that they had at that time.
Regarding the material that the commissioner had on paper, the inspector pointed out that they left much more documentation than what they took, because, as he stressed, there was too much and some were not linked to the object of the investigation. In fact, he recalled that the search at Villarejo’s house began on November 3, 2017 and lasted until the next day.
During the interrogation, the commissioner’s defense questioned the chain of custody of the seized material. This is a strategy that his lawyer has used in other trials in the Tandem case to delegitimize the investigation. Fraga has defended the management of the evidence collected by the Police in this investigation.
