He Plus Ultra case has shaken Spanish politics this week after the indictment of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero for influence peddling and document falsification. On Wednesday, Pedro Sánchez ruled out an electoral advance in a tense control session in which the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, demanded his resignation and transferred the pressure of a possible motion of censure to the Government’s partners. They have been modulating their speech as the details of the car became known. The leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has admitted that “it doesn’t look good”, while the ERC spokesperson, Gabriel Rufián, has acknowledged having made a mistake in defending Zapatero “out of affection” before reading it. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has asked for “time and serenity” for the case to “be clarified.” In this context, Rufián has also announced his willingness to lead a new left-wing space ahead of the 2027 general elections.
