The relationship with China has become the umpteenth source of ideological division in Spain, according to the Study on the international situation published this Friday by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS). When asked what the EU’s “strategic position” should be “in the current international context”, more than half of the 6,000 respondents (54.1%) affirm that ties with other countries, such as China and other emerging powers, should be “strengthened”, while only 32.4% believe that the best option is to “maintain a position fundamentally aligned with the United States and NATO.” Now, the fine print of the result shows that there is a clear difference in how things look from the left and the right.
