The forest fires that are ravaging Madrid and Castilla y León continue to burn uncontrollably. In Castilla y León there are nine active fires, with three towns with evacuation orders and two confined to Ávila. In total, more than 8,000 inhabitants evacuated and 5,000 confined. And in Madrid, the three assets, which have forced eight municipalities to be evacuated and three to be confined, have joined together this afternoon on a single front, which complicates the extinction efforts. There are already 50,000 evacuees or confined in the community. Between the two regions, there are 63,000 inhabitants affected and around 15,000 hectares burned. “We do not rule out that in the next few hours (this figure) will have to grow,” the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, pointed out mid-afternoon. His counterpart in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, was concerned about the possibility of the fires in both regions also merging, something for which he said “there is very little left.”
