Many companies are discussing skills shortages, absenteeism and employee retention. What is rarely talked about in this context: menopause. Employers are losing experienced specialists and managers because women reduce their working hours, change jobs or retire earlier due to menopausal symptoms. According to a Forsa survey, 93 percent of working women between the ages of 45 and 60 are affected by at least one menopausal symptom, many by several at the same time.
The “MenoSupport” study published in 2023 by Andrea Rumler, professor of business administration and marketing at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, shows how big the impact is on the world of work. More than 2,000 women were surveyed. “Many of those affected feel that their work performance is significantly limited by menopausal symptoms,” says Rumler. But most companies have so far underestimated how strong the impact of these complaints is on everyday work.
