The Minister of Justice, Félix Bolaños, insisted this Tuesday that there is still “one year and two months of the legislature” and has asked the PP in the Senate to “not condemn a person who has not yet declared”, in reference to former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. The spokesperson for the Popular Party in the Upper House, Alicia García, has responded by attacking the former president, whom she has referred to as “the Maharaja of Ferraz” who turned his office “into a safe house.” In parallel, the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, considers that the central Executive should submit to a question of confidence or call elections after Zapatero’s accusation, and has warned that his party is in the “moment of greatest risk” in the entire democracy. Zapatero’s lawyer requested the postponement of his appearance to “be able to take adequate knowledge” of the case. The statement will finally be made on June 17 and 18, as reported by the National Court, which is investigating the former president for a crime of influence peddling and other crimes in the Plus Ultra case. a.
