The fire that is ravaging the southwest corner of the Community of Madrid and has already burned more than 6,000 hectares remains active and uncontrolled this Saturday. The region’s emergency service has reported that “the fire is still active” and that its evolution “will be determined by the wind regime that occurs in the coming hours.” The firefighters have worked “intensely” throughout the night, taking advantage of three factors that, according to the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, opened an “opportunity” to try to control the flames: low temperatures, less wind and increased humidity, which was very low throughout the day yesterday. In Ávila, the night has been positive: temperatures have dropped a lot and the winds have helped contain the northern area of the fire. The most conflictive area continues to be to the south, with the possibility still present that it will join the major center of Madrid. The Ministry of the Interior last night estimated that more than 60,000 people were evacuated or confined between both provinces, with no personal injuries reported so far.
