Celta de Vigo’s campaign to recover the shirt that Madonna wore in 1990 during a concert at the Balaídos stadium has managed to attract the attention of the queen of pop. Madonna responded this Saturday afternoon with a tweet in which she said that the garment is “hanging in my archives”an expression that can be interpreted as “hanging in my personal museum.” However, the singer has not clarified whether she is going to donate it to the club. “I see and represent your club with all my spirit!!❤️🔥”, he added.
The singer wore the shirt during the concert she gave at the Balaidos stadium on July 29, 1990. However, trace of the garment was lost when she got off the stage. Now the club has launched a campaign to locate it in order to incorporate it into its collection. Through social networks, billboards installed in major arteries of the city and even an open letter addressed to the artist and signed by the club’s president, Marián Mouriño, Celta has looked for clues as to where she may be.
The shirt in search and capture had the number 5 on the back: corresponding to Toledo defender José Manuel Espinosa, in the ranks of the Vigo team from 1988 until his retirement in 1991, and died at the age of 66 in October of last year.
The photograph of Madonna with that shirt, which the sports entity itself has released these days, “became an iconic image in the history of the club and the city.” The jersey, the team lamented, was “unknown since then.” As he had now revealed, he had already spent “years looking for her privately, but the investigation stalled.”
