The former President of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero denied this Wednesday before Judge José Luis Calama that he influenced the rescue of the Plus Ultra airline, as confirmed by legal sources present at the interrogation. Zapatero arrived at the National Court at 8:48, where he declared that he was being investigated for influence peddling, money laundering, against the Public Treasury and smuggling in the Plus Ultra case in the case regarding the loan to the airline. It is the first time in democracy that a former head of the Executive testifies before the National Court. Vox, Hazte Oír and Iustitia Europa have asked the PP to demand provisional imprisonment for Zapatero at the end of his statement. The spokesperson for Congress, Montse Mínguez, has assured that the PSOE continues to defend the innocence of the former president. “We continue to defend Zapatero’s innocence and today we are faced with what we were waiting for, which is that President Zapatero is going to give all the explanations and clarify all the doubts and questions,” he assured. Meanwhile, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has defended the work of the Executive during the control session in Congress. “You are not a democrat,” the opposition leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has insulted him.
