The forest fires that are devastating the province of Ávila and the Community of Madrid are still active, although their progress is slower. The extinction is being complex and has been made difficult by strong gusts of wind. After several days of rapid advance, on Sunday many of the fronts were contained, although “several heads” remain active and the fires cannot be considered perimeter-bound. The efforts this Monday will go in that direction: try to achieve stabilization, protect populations and avoid a fusion of the flames of the two major sources. The evolution is positive, but very slow and the risk of reactivations is high. The Military Emergency Unit (UME) attacks them like a single fire and the Government expanded the national emergency to Toledo. Between the three regions, 77,000 hectares are already affected and around 90,000 have been evacuated or confined. In Ávila alone, there are 50,000 hectares, making it the largest fire in the history of Spain.
