The general director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González, has denied being involved in the plot of the Leire case and has stated: “I have never, ever participated in any plot or conspiracy against the UCO; neither influenced by Leire Díez nor by any other person.” “I have not stopped or interfered in any investigation,” he stated. González is appearing in the Senate to give explanations about his relationship with the former socialist militant accused of plotting an alleged plot to boycott judicial cases that affect the PSOE and the Sánchez Government and that the National Court is investigating. After her intervention, the representatives of PP and Vox on the commission have charged against her, accusing her of “treason” or “destruction of evidence” and have asked for her resignation. Regarding the continuity of the Government, Junts has presented an amendment to a PP motion to urge Sánchez to dissolve the Cortes Generales and call elections. However, the Congress Board has agreed to prevent the vote. In response, the PP has accused the president of Congress and the Board, Francina Armengol, of “not working for Parliament or for the Spanish people”, but “solely and exclusively for Sánchez”.
