The president of the Generalitat of Catalonia and secretary of the PSC, Salvador Illa, has firmly closed ranks with Pedro Sánchez in the federal committee of the PSOE that is being held in Madrid. “We socialists are neither bent nor silenced. And we still have a lot to do,” he stated. “I am in favor of moving forward, I have hope in the future and we have acted forcefully,” he stressed. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has spoken out about the corruption that affects the party in his speech. “We ask justice to be fair,” he stated about the cases of his wife and brother. Regarding the investigations linked to former members of the group, Sánchez defended: “We have been forceful. If we had known them, we would never have tolerated them.” Before starting the event, the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, stated that “it is the worst moment in the recent history” of the party, and has insisted on calling for elections. “Today, all of Spain is only wondering when. The PSOE is above any leader,” he maintained. For her part, the Government delegate in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, has harshly attacked the cases of corruption and has stated: “The betrayal that we have suffered in our ranks cannot paralyze us.” The PSOE is holding one of its most tense federal committees since Sánchez’s arrival to the General Secretariat, with corruption as a backdrop and the increasingly growing loneliness of the Government in Congress.
