What does the title “Special Media of the Year” mean to you personally – and what does human resources management stand for in your eyes? In your opinion, what are the ingredients for excellent HR journalism?

For me, the title is above all a confirmation of our work to date: for many years we have been researching and writing in “Human Resources” about the topics that concern HR professionals. We create high-quality specialist journalism for practitioners who want (and need) to know what good HR work looks like. The fact that we have now been named “Specialist Medium of the Year” is once again a nice confirmation. The relaunch of the magazine has once again taken “human resources management” to the next level and I am pleased that this is being recognized not only by our readers, but also by experts in the industry.

Which encounter, which HR project or which interview made a lasting impression on you?

Even if it was a few years ago: the visit to the former McDonald’s HR director Wolfgang Goebel. Particularly exciting because of his CV: Goebel literally worked his way up from branch employee to HR heavyweight, knew the company inside out and therefore knew where the employees needed to be – from the burger fryer to the top manager. Jagged in tone, but always authoritative and approachable. And secondly: the visit to Joachim Sauer during his time as Human Resources Director at Airbus. Unfortunately, Sauer, who is also the founding president and “motor”. of the Federal Association of Human Resources Managers, died far too early. It is not for nothing that “Human Resources” includes him in its list of HR thought leaders from 50 years ago.

What do you do when the editorial deadline passes?

Breathe deeply. Chat with your colleagues and celebrate the (successful) current issue with pizza. And already have half an eye on the next issue. Because after the game is before the game.
