As of September 1st, Dorothea Boxberg will head the labor and real estate department on the BMW AG board of directors and act as labor director. The company announced this yesterday. The 52-year-old von Boxberg began her career at the Boston Consulting Group after studying industrial engineering and business administration in Berlin and Paris.
In 2005 she switched to the Star Alliance airline group. In 2007 she went to Lufthansa, where she held various management positions until she was promoted to CFO on the board in 2021. In 2023 she took over the management of the Belgian airline Brussels Airline.
Ilka Horstmeier: 31 years of BMW
Her predecessor, Ilka Horstmeier, took over HR management at BMW in 2019. She was at BMW for a total of 31 years. According to the BMW Group press office, she is handing over the position of Executive Board “in agreement with the Supervisory Board and in the common interest of an early succession plan.” As the Handelsblatt reports, Horstmeier’s contract ran until next year.
Dr. Nicolas Peter, Chairman of the BMW Supervisory Board, said of the change: “Dorothea von Boxberg not only brings extensive experience in implementing transformation processes, but also an outside view of our industry. At the same time, her technical background makes her a very good fit for the BMW Group. In addition, Dorothea von Boxberg has the decisive leadership strength to drive forward the necessary structural transformation of the BMW Group in the coming years.” Like many German car companies, BMW is currently under great pressure to transform.
