The number of deaths in the fire that started this Thursday in Los Gallardos (Almería, 3,110 inhabitants) rises to at least 12, according to the latest official balance of the Junta de Andalucía, which has increased the death toll by one after the discovery of a new body in the same area in which a group of seven people who died due to the flames was found and who are in addition to four people who died inside a car. The acting Minister of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, has detailed that there are more than 600 people evacuated by the fire and that the deceased were surprised by “a very fast fire, with a very high speed of spread” in an area of very complex orography, with houses scattered across the mountain. The deceased, who are suspected to be foreigners, tried to leave the area “by a route other than the evacuation route” and were surprised by the flames. The president of the Junta de Andalucía has indicated in statements to the media that there are 23 people who have not been located.
