The patrons of the La Campana bar commented before the game of dominoes that it had been a year since what happened to Domingo. Domingo Tomás was the involuntary protagonist of events for which his town, Torre Pacheco, made national news and the front pages of the foreign press. The reason is that he was beaten by three men of North African origin on the outskirts of the municipality when he went out on his morning walk on July 9, 2025. His bloody face became the flag of the extreme right to promote a hunt against the migrant. Although the violent events that occurred promised more blood than was finally spilled, they did leave wounds that have not yet healed in this municipality of some 40,000 inhabitants of Campo de Cartagena, built with the lumbar strength and sweat of thousands of North Africans who came in the 90s to harvest these lands.
