The Police are searching for another drug tunnel in Ceuta, as part of the operation against hashish trafficking in which 16 people were arrested yesterday in the autonomous city and other points in Andalusia and Galicia, according to sources familiar with the operation. This Saturday, police officers examine some industrial warehouses in the El Tarajal Industrial Estate, very close to the border crossing with Morocco. Firefighters have traveled to the area to carry out water drainage work.
In this same industrial estate, the Civil Guard discovered the existence of a passage to transport drugs a little over a year ago. Until a few months ago, the investigation by the Civil Guard, called Operation Hades, was pending the information requested from the Moroccan authorities about possible exit points of this infrastructure in Alawite territory.
In fact, this tunnel was the culmination of Operation Hades, directed by the Internal Affairs Service of the Civil Guard, and which was named after the god of the underworld, which also refers to a dark place.
A Civil Guard patrol entered it on February 19. The tunnel was camouflaged in an old marble factory in the industrial estate near the border with Morocco and they had to wait several days to be able to inspect it. The water that had accumulated in the underground gallery and the fear of exceeding the territorial limit delayed the examination of this infrastructure used to introduce large caches of hashish from the neighboring country.
A few days later, on March 3, agents from the Subsoil Reconnaissance Unit (URS) of the Civil Guard carried out an inspection, the images of which EL PAÍS has had access to and published this Saturday.
The very clear video shows that the walls are covered with wooden planks and also shows giant hinges attached to the ceiling, as well as large remains of silicone stuck to it. It has its own lighting system and water drainage system through yellow tubes that run along the floor. When walking through it, a great humidity is perceived in the environment, say sources close to the investigation. In the images you can see empty water bottles and a flooded area, which, according to sources close to the investigation, allowed the path to continue. During one of the inspections they found a suitcase.
