A 45-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman died this Sunday after the vehicle in which they were traveling fell from a bridge into the Clariano River in the Valencian town of Ontinyent, as sources from the investigation and later the Emergency Coordination and Information Center (CICU) confirmed to Europa Press. The driver of the vehicle, who was unharmed and tested positive for drugs, has been arrested by the Civil Guard.
The traffic accident occurred around 5:25 p.m., when the emergency services were mobilized due to the fall of a vehicle over the Camí del Carril bridge into the Clariano river, sources from the Valencia Provincial Firefighters Consortium point out.
Three teams of firefighters from Xàtiva and Ontinyent, the sergeant from Alzira, rescuers from the Special High Altitude Rescue Group (GERA) and the Consortium’s rescue helicopter with a doctor on board have traveled to the place, on the CV-668.
Crews from the Alicante Consortium have also attended, due to the protocol for action in bordering areas between provinces.
Firefighters extracted the three people inside from the accident vehicle, two of whom ultimately died.
