Firefighters report that the cause of the accident was a stone fall.
A 30-year-old man and woman are in critical condition after suffering an accident while climbing this Saturday afternoon on the Montserrat mountain, in El Bruc (Barcelona). It seems that the cause was a rock fall when they were ascending the mountain wall in the area called El Columpio, as reported in a statement by the Generalitat Bombers. After a first assistance intervention by the Medical Emergency System (SEM) at the scene, they were evacuated by helicopter to the Bellvitge and La Vall d’Hebron hospitals.
The firefighters received notification of this accident at 4:30 p.m., when a person told them that there were two unconscious injured people in a climbing area near the Can Jorba parking lot. Due to the seriousness of the situation, the EMS has performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on one of the injured, while stabilizing the second, who had “significant injuries.” They were then evacuated by helicopter to Bellvitge and La Vall d’Hebron.
