Involved in a certain controversy, King Juan Carlos collects a special literary award starting this afternoon at the French National Assembly for Reconciliation (Planeta, 2025), the memoirs he has written with the author Laurence Debray. The award, which is in its 35th edition, is presented by the Lire la Société association, which has been celebrating this literary day for years and awards different categories in collaboration with the Chamber of Deputies. The jury, chaired this year by historian Annette Wieviorka, recognizes that the work narrates “the fundamental role” of the monarch in the Spanish Transition.

The awarding of the award surprised both the rest of the finalists, who debated among themselves whether they should attend the meal that will be held with the presence of the monarch as it is a figure “so controversial in Spain”, and the president of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet.
