The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has been convinced this Friday that the Catalan Budgets are going to move forward after not having been able to approve those for 2024 or 2025. “I do not contemplate another scenario in which the budgets are approved because it is what Catalonia needs,” the leader of the Catalan Government stated without hesitation when interviewed by Aimar Bretos on ‘Hora 25’. Although he still does not have the support of ERC, Illa has considered that they will be able to move forward with the accounts with his investiture partners.

More information

The public accounts project for this year foresees a record expenditure of 49,162 million euros, 10.3% more than last year – when the Government worked with extended accounts – and 22.8% more than in the last Budgets that a Catalan Executive has managed to approve so far. The president has highlighted that with these accounts the “shared prosperity” policies that he defends will be possible. In addition to investment in housing, the increase in health, education and social services items has stood out.

In housing policies, one of the main concerns of citizens, he has said that he will try not to make mistakes but prefers to promote measures than to sit idly by in the face of the access problem that is becoming widespread. The budgets presented include a record investment in housing of 1.9 billion. He has been blunt with large investors. “It cannot be that there are investment groups that want a return of 10, 20 or 30% through tourist apartments or seasonal rentals,” he specified regarding his proposal to limit the speculative purchase of housing.

At the doors of the Goya Awards, which are being held this Saturday in Barcelona for the second time in its history, Illa did not want to commit to betting on the winning films, but he did have words of praise for Very fardirected by Gerard Oms (whom he highlighted is from the Vallès region like him) which deals with immigration. He has also made a plea in favor of cinema and culture: “In this time of profound and accelerated changes, the more culture, the better for everyone.”
