Saturday afternoon, half time: The football players leave the pitch exhausted. Afterwards: drink, short stretches, targeted mental time out. The body should recover so that it can return to peak performance in just a few minutes. Breaks are fundamental for professional footballers – and the world of work would do well to take this as a guide.
Because, as Prof. Dr. Ingo Froböse, sports scientist and renowned expert on health and performance, emphasizes that we don’t primarily have a stress problem in our society – we have a regeneration problem. “In sport, regeneration is a natural part of the system. In working life, this principle is not sufficiently developed. And that is exactly what takes its toll sooner or later,” says Froböse.
