The fires that are ravaging Ávila and Madrid are still active this Tuesday. During the early hours of the morning, 50 ground crews worked in one of the areas that was of most concern throughout the day yesterday: the area around the Cofio River, one of the most critical points at the moment and where the San Juan reservoir was of particular concern on Monday. The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has assured that the last night has been “reasonably positive” for the evolution of the fires in Madrid, Ávila and Toledo thanks to the work of the extinguishing teams, especially in the north of the San Juan reservoir. “Today we can be a little calmer, especially given the weather conditions that we are going to face in the next few hours,” he stated in an interview on La 1. This Tuesday an increase in temperatures is expected that will once again mark the extinction work. It is a key 24 hours before a new heat wave hits Spain, in which at least 15,000 people have returned to their homes in several of the affected areas. Meanwhile, in the Vall d’Uixó (Castellón), the efforts of the fire extinguishing tasks are focused between the towns of Tales and Alcudia de Veo to prevent the flames from advancing towards the Sierra de Espadán natural park.
