A large fire with different sources keeps the Generalitat firefighters in suspense this Friday in a dozen municipalities of Girona. The main focus began this morning in La Bisbal d’Empordà, but different sub-spots have affected neighboring municipalities, the protected area of Les Gavarres and is forcing the confinement of a dozen municipalities on the Costa Brava, such as Platja d’Aro or Calonge. Firefighters estimate that 40,000 people are affected by mobility restrictions, those registered in the area. The objective of the extinguishing teams, of up to 225 people, is to limit the perimeter of the fire, since it is burning without control in a highly populated area, with a lot of mobility and which is already in the middle of the tourist season. Professionals assume that it will be difficult to turn it off and speak of a “next few days” scenario. For now, it has burned 750 hectares and has a potential of 10,000, firefighters report.

Five roads closed
Civil Protection and Firefighters have so far closed five roads due to the fire. The roads affected are the C-66 Palafrugell; the GI-513 between Cornellà el Terri and Vilademuls; the GI-660, between Bisbal d’Empordà and Calonge; the GIV-5132 between Banyoles and Vilademuls and the GIV-6612 between Llagostera and Calonge.
