Two men have lost their lives in Alarilla (144 inhabitants, Guadalajara) after suffering a fall this Sunday while paragliding. According to 112 of Castilla-La Mancha, the event occurred at 5:40 p.m. in the area of La Muela, an area very frequented on weekends by paragliding instructors and fans due to its conditions for practicing this aerial sport.
According to municipal sources, the deceased would be a 61-year-old paragliding instructor, belonging to one of the training schools that come to La Muela, and a 22-year-old student. Both died when the paraglider in which they were flying fell to the ground, without the medical resources deployed to the scene – a medical helicopter, an ICU and a life support ambulance – being able to save their lives.
The causes of the accident, which the Civil Guard is already investigating, are unknown at the moment, although the wind that was picking up in the area at that time is pointed out as a possible hypothesis. Firefighters from Azuqueca de Henares and members of the Civil Guard also participated in the operation mobilized by 112 of Castilla-La Mancha to rescue the deceased.
La Muela is one of the favorite rocky promontories among those who are new to paragliding due to its proximity to the Community of Madrid and its characteristics, with an altitude of almost 1,000 meters and slopes of 300 meters. Despite this, accidents in this area tend to be frequent. The last one occurred last August, with two seriously injured in another similar accident.
