The organization of the SanSan Festival has canceled the first day of the event due to the strong wind, which was to start this Thursday afternoon at the Benicàssim concert venue (Castellón), although it hopes to be able to celebrate the rest of the edition, on Friday and Saturday, given the favorable weather forecast.
The SanSan Festival, responsible for opening the festival season in Spain, has been held every Easter in Benicàssim for 11 editions.
The decision to suspend the opening has been taken “for the safety of attendees, artists and staff after an extraordinary meeting held at 3:00 p.m. this Thursday at the security coordination center with the municipal authorities competent in matters of Civil Protection” and in response to the recommendations of the security and fire forces, the organization reported in a statement.
“The current weather conditions, with gusts of wind that make the development of any activity on the premises unfeasible, have motivated this decision,” the same sources have clarified.
The SanSan Festival site had suffered serious damage during the wind storm that hit the province of Castellón last Sunday. The organization managed to get it ready in three days “by redoubling efforts and maintaining uninterrupted work for 24 hours for its complete repair, finally managing to leave everything ready for the opening of doors scheduled for today,” they recalled.
The weather forecasts for Friday and Saturday “point to a very different and completely favorable scenario,” states the same statement, so the organization hopes to be able to continue with the edition, although it has indicated that it will promptly report any updates in the coming hours. “We maintain our commitment to offering the best possible experience in the development of the festival,” he said.
For this first day, performances such as Of Monsters and Men, Love of Lesbian, Siloé, León Benavente, Califato 3/4 or Rufus T.Firefly were planned. Refunds for Thursday tickets will be made automatically.
In the case of those who have season tickets, “in the coming days we will inform you of the procedure and deadlines for the reimbursement of the proportional part of this Thursday’s day,” the organization concludes.
On Friday and Saturday the lineup will have artists such as Rigoberta Bandini, Guitarricadelafuente, Xoel López, La Casa Azul, Chiquita Movida, La MODA, Ultraligera, Barry B, Maria Arnal, Allizz, Ángel Stanich or Sanguijuelas del Guadiana.
