Theft of 71 mobile phones
On the other hand, this Saturday the Mossos have also reported the arrest of a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman as alleged perpetrators of the theft of 71 high-end mobile phones in nightclubs, leisure environments and major festivals throughout Catalonia. As reported by the Catalan police in a statement, agents from the Rubí Investigation Unit and the plainclothes group Fura carried out the arrest on March 1, after an investigation began when they detected that numerous stolen terminals were emitting a GPS signal from the same address located on Catalunya Avenue in Rubí (Barcelona).
Researchers have confirmed that, since March 2025, a high number of thefts and robberies with a similar pattern had occurred, mainly in nightlife venues and popular celebrations in municipalities such as Mataró, Salt, Igualada, Mollerussa, Lleida, Tarragona, Reus and Salou. The victims were mainly young girls that the perpetrators had “previously selected” in search of phones from the same high-end brand, the Mossos have stated.
A few hours after the robberies were committed, the stolen devices were located by GPS in the aforementioned Rubí apartment, which allowed the investigation to focus on those now detained, who had allegedly turned this criminal activity into their way of life and moved around using rental vehicles that changed weekly, according to the police.
The agents established a device on March 1 and, around 5:00 a.m., they intercepted the couple when they were parking their vehicle in Rubí, where they found four mobile phones that they had just stolen from a nightclub in Mataró. That same day, the Mossos searched the home of the detainees, where they located false documentation, 250 euros in cash, a mobile phone and a notebook with notes on terminal prices and dates of major festivals in Catalonia.
Investigators have proven their participation in the theft of the 71 terminals of both detainees, which total 23 police records and were brought to judicial disposal on March 3 before the Rubí court.
