Why “Team Human x AI” is now becoming an HR topic
Artificial intelligence has arrived in recruiting, learning and performance – but the crucial question is: How does leadership remain human? With the annual motto “Team Human x AI”, the focus is on daily work with AI. For HR managers, it’s no longer about people or Machine, but about the targeted interaction of data strength and empathy.
Anyone who is responsible for personnel and organizational development, leadership and people & culture today must actively shape this interaction. Otherwise, tools and tech providers will determine the rules of the game – and not HR.
AI as co-pilot: Better decisions, clear responsibility
AI can help managers make more informed decisions: for example through people analytics, skill gap analyzes or data-based scenarios. The claim of “Team Human x AI” is clear: AI provides signals, humans decide.
For HR practice this means:
- Decision-making processes become more transparent and comprehensible.
- Leaders need data and AI skills to classify results.
- HR sets guardrails – for example through governance, guidelines and training.
This creates a new quality of decision-making: data-informed, but value-based and responsible.
Impulse from the ZP Think Tank Innovation
The white paper from the future human resources think tank “The Great Transformation: Five Theses for Reinventing HR and Organizations” (presented exclusively at ZP Europe 2025) provides a clear direction here. It emphasizes: “HR & technology are inseparable” – people remain drivers of innovation and responsibility, AI reinforces it. Central theses:

- Fundamental renewal of HR creates real people management.
- The AI revolution makes us more human – when used correctly.
- Complexity requires the courage to be open, permanent metamorphoses as a permanent state.
- Crises as catalysts: antifragile organizations grow through change.

People & Culture: Trust instead of fear of technology
Without trust, “Team Human x AI” will not work in the company. Employees want to understand what AI is used for, what data is used and what impact it has on them. Here, HR sets the pace for transparent communication:
- How do we explain the use of AI to teams clearly and honestly?
- Where does AI help create time for real conversations and feedback?
- Which processes deliberately remain free of automated decisions?
If HR offers guidance here, AI will not be experienced as a control instrument, but rather as an enabler for better collaboration and a healthier performance culture.
What HR can actually do now
To make “Team Human x AI” a practical reality, HR can start in three steps:
- Define competencies
What future skills do managers and HR teams need when dealing with AI (e.g. data skills, critical thinking, ethical judgment, communication skills)? - Set up pilot projects
Start small: e.g. B. AI-supported analyzes in an area, a leadership lab or an AI-based learning track for a selected group of managers. - Share experiences
Make learning visible – internally and externally. This creates organizational learning about “Human x AI” that goes beyond individual projects.
