The City Council of Lloret de Mar (Girona) has agreed to unblock the coastal path that passes through the estate of former Kazakh president Nursultán Nazarbayev, now pending the approval of the municipal plenary session.
According to the council, the agreement, after years of litigation due to the property’s opposition to allowing access to a public route, will redefine the path.
The work will be carried out by the property through the company Flinder Data, which will undertake both the drafting of the planning and the execution.
The new route, according to the City Council, is designed to recover “the essence of the coastal path” with a route that runs along the sea and preserves the environment and landscape integration.
The agreement is the result of a negotiation process between the City Council, the Generalitat and the property and has included various technical meetings and site visits to reach a consensus on the proposal.
The mayor of Lloret de Mar, Adrià Lamelas, has highlighted that the plenary session will decide whether to approve an agreement “that should allow residents and visitors to make this historic demand to pass and enjoy this coastal path a reality.”
Before the hypothetical approval, the procedure implies that the draft is submitted to public information for a period of one month. The City Council, if approved, will process the urban planning and, once the works are completed, the road will become for public use and its management will be municipal.
