Montero, about his replacement: “with Corps and Spain, we could not be in better hands”
The former first vice president of the Government and former Minister of the Treasury, María Jesús Montero, has stated that she has always considered politics as a relay race in which the baton must be passed and that with her substitutes in the vice presidency, Carlos Cuerpo, and in the Treasury, Arcadi Spain, “the baton will fly.” “That fills me with confidence, security and hope. We couldn’t be in better hands,” he insisted, “nor could I pass the baton to people who, clearly, are going to run the race better than me, with more intelligence and more ability.”
In an emotional intervention, he stated that he has “the most absolute confidence” in Carlos Corpus and was grateful that an official like him “complicates his life” to become part of politics in “not easy” times, which he defined as “the most noble of human activities.”
Regarding his “friend” Spain, he has said that he has “all the ingredients of a Minister of Finance: empathy, intelligence, negotiating skills, dialogue and finding solutions and the ability to say no when the time comes.”
