President Salvador Illa defended his Government’s action this Saturday in Tarragona and stressed that the socialists’ project for Catalonia is for the next decade. With that message, the also first secretary of the PSC has made it clear that his intention is to at least exhaust the mandate in full battle with Esquerra over the budget project, which he has not quoted literally. The Parliament is holding the debate on all the accounts this Friday and the Government does not have a majority as the Republicans have presented an amendment to all the accounts. ERC refuses to give its vote by accusing the Government of failing to fulfill its promise to advance in the transfer of collecting personal income tax. The unknown is what Illa will do if the project declines.
In the opening speech of the PSC Winter School, Illa stated that her party has to offer Catalonia a hopeful vision with a future. “We have to offer a project to Catalan society for years. We are not thinking about 2026 or 2027 nor are we stuck in the elections of I don’t know when. We are giving a project for the next 10 years and it is a reason for reflection for this winter school,” he alleged. Illa has reprimanded the opposition parties, without citing them, for now complaining that problems are not being resolved when the PSC has done nothing but inherit them.
After stating that he wants a Catalonia proud of self-government and that it will once again lead Spain economically and socially, Illa has defended that they must “seek solutions and roll up their sleeves.” “That’s the attitude: have confidence. Step by step,” he said. “We have already unblocked the airport (the expansion), companies have returned, we have rescued the railway transversal axis. One problem after another. Time and patience,” he stressed during the rally. During his speech, Illa praised Pedro Sánchez’s coherence for standing up and saying no to the War in the same way that he already adopted that same attitude in the war conflict in Ukraine or Gaza.
Esquerra Republicana, meanwhile, is celebrating its 95th anniversary. The Republicans have maintained for days that they will not modify the direction of their vote regarding the budgets of the Generalitat. The Government maintains contacts with the Republicans and hopes to reach an agreement even if it is at the last minute before the final plenary session.
