Some 545,000 vehicles have returned to the metropolitan area of Barcelona between 12:00 p.m. on Sunday and 8:00 p.m. this Monday, 92% of the 590,000 planned by the Servei Català de Trànsit. The rest of the vehicles are expected to return throughout the night, during the second phase of the traffic arrangement on Catalan roads for Easter. The day has been generally calm, although a vegetation fire has complicated traffic this afternoon on the C-32 highway near Gavà (Barcelona). According to the Government’s first balance sheet, no fatalities have been recorded on the inter-urban road network of Catalonia since the beginning of the Easter holiday period, between Friday, March 27, until Monday, April 6.
Throughout this Monday, the Catalan authorities have highlighted traffic jams on the AP-7. Specifically, in L’Ampolla, between La Riera de Gaià and Roda de Berà, and between Santa Oliva and Santa Margarida i els Monjos in the north direction. Also on the AP-7, between Maçanet de la Selva and Fogars de la Selva, and in Sant Celoni in the south direction. As of 7:00 p.m., there have been no delays on most of the roads.
In general, Operation Return has been more fluid than last year. Although this Monday there was a 6% increase in return mobility compared to last year, the peak of retentions has added up to a total of 56 accumulated kilometers, 33% less than in 2025 (78 kilometers). The retention factor (which relates the duration and length of congestion) has been reduced by 5% in the entire road network compared to the previous year.
The most important incident occurred this afternoon on the C-32 highway, near Gavà (Barcelona), when a vegetation fire caused traffic jams on this road with a single traffic lane enabled in the Barcelona direction, according to the Servei Català de Trànsit.
The Firefighters worked with seven crews to put out the fire, which has burned the side of the road, generating a secondary focus in the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat in which they have also worked. After more than an hour of traffic jams, traffic was restored around 3:15 p.m.
