A new grassroots music company, PlayZer Media Ltd, has launched in the South of England — spearheaded by father and son team Paul and Joshua Barnes, whose combined passion and personal journeys form the foundation of their growing brand.
The company’s mission is to champion new musical talent through live events, authentic audience experiences, and high-quality production, offering a professional springboard for emerging acts across the region.
Experience Meets Emotion
Joshua Barnes is an accomplished guitarist and award-winning promoter, celebrated for his unique playing style and artistic versatility. With over five years of professional experience, Joshua has earned numerous awards and is praised for both his live performances and recent work behind the scenes promoting breakthrough artists.
Paul Barnes, meanwhile, brings technical expertise and personal resilience to the business. A former engineer with a background in aviation and property services, Paul’s return to music followed a significant personal recovery after a violent mugging in 2005 and a transformative decision to quit alcohol. His enrolment in a 2007 media course sparked the original concept for PlayZer.
Together, the duo now combine stage presence with sound engineering skill, creating events that blend technical polish with community warmth.
A Fast-Growing Name
Since hosting their debut event in September 2024, PlayZer has grown quickly. The company has already attracted international attention, working with bands from the US and France in early 2025. Their investment in equipment and production quality has helped cement a reputation for professionalism.
Plans for the Future
PlayZer Media offers a complete production service — from artist scouting to technical event delivery. They’ve organised shows at grassroots favourites such as The Hobbit in Southampton and The King Theatre in Southsea, as well as large venues including Portsmouth Guildhall and 1865 Southampton.
With a focus on talent development, the team is currently preparing for Battle of the Bands 2026, a major new competition covering Dorset, Hampshire, and East Sussex. The project is designed to give unsigned artists real exposure through community engagement, band showcases, and public events.
