An 81-year-old woman was seriously injured this Sunday after being run over by a city bus on Felipe II Avenue, in the Madrid district of Salamanca, Emergencies Madrid reported.

The event occurred around 6 p.m. in the vicinity of a pedestrian crossing regulated by traffic lights. For reasons that are being investigated, the bus ran over the woman when she was on the road. SAMUR-Civil Protection paramedics treated the victim at the scene of the accident. The woman had a severe blow to the head and a foot with catastrophic injuries. After being stabilized by emergency teams, the victim was transferred in serious condition to the Gregorio Marañón Hospital. Agents from the Madrid Municipal Police have taken charge of the investigation to clarify the circumstances under which the accident occurred.
