A 34-year-old man who had kidnapped a taxi driver in Madrid and forced him to take him to the small Burgos town of Villoruebo, which is more than 260 kilometers from the capital, was arrested this Friday by the Civil Guard after spending hours barricaded in a home in the town. The suspect forced the driver to take him to the municipality at gunpoint and, once there, released him.

The driver is in good health, but the perpetrator has remained barricaded for several hours.

The Civil Guard has sent a negotiator to the town of Sierra de la Demanda to mediate with the man. The armed institute has deployed an important security device in the Burgos town.

Sources from the investigation have indicated to EFE that it was the taxi driver’s wife who raised the alarm when she had no news of her husband and, through the geolocation of the taxi, they were able to verify that he was in this town in the Sierra de la Demanda de Burgos, which is three and a quarter hours from Madrid.

The mayor of Villoruebo, Javier Arnaiz, has stated that this man, known in the town and who apparently has some type of mental health problem, arrived in the town at dawn and freed the taxi driver, who reported what had happened to him.

Without anyone in the town knowing anything at that time, the man went to the home of a neighbor, who knows him, and stayed to sleep inside. This morning, when the neighbor returned home from a walk, he encountered the Civil Guard device that was looking for the kidnapper, to the surprise of the homeowner. The agents had cordoned off the entire area.
